Magdalen Ser is a Psychotherapist,   EMDRAA Accredited  Practitioner,  Family Therapist and Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with over 25 years of clinical experience in mental health, health, community and educational settings across the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.

 Magdalen is a London-trained family therapist  with a  MSc. in Family Therapy conferred by the Institute of Psychiatry, Kings’ College London in 1996.  Her clinical attachments were completed at the Adolescent Eating Disorder Clinic, Maudsley Hospital and the Lewisham Child Guidance Clinic in London, UK. 

She also holds a B.A and B. Social Sciences (Honours) from the National University of Singapore.


Before venturing into full time private practice, she has worked  in clinical, teaching and management roles  which included stints as Deputy Director, Singapore Association for Mental Health; Senior Counsellor, Student Counselling Service, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand ; Senior Social Worker, Inpatient Psychiatric Ward, Wellington Hospital, New Zealand; Adjunct Social Work Lecturer, National University of Singapore; Counsellor at high schools in Singapore and  community counselling services in Melbourne, Australia


Magdalen is a Registered Provider with Medicare Australia and holds full and accredited memberships with EMDR Association of Australia and Australian Association of Social Workers.

Magdalen works within a client-centred, trauma-informed, attachment-focused and strength-based framework.  She adopts an integrative and creative approach to therapy and view psychological/emotional issues within relational and social contexts. 


She believes people have the ability to connect with their inner resources of resilience, strength and values to work through their problems, thrive in relationships and live their dreams. 


As a therapist, she seeks to facilitate clients' journey of discovery, restoration and renewal in a compassionate and supportive manner.


She draws on a range of therapeutic approaches such as Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy, Solution-focused/Brief Therapy, , Internal Family Systems, Somatic Therapy and Small Figures Work.

Magdalen works primarily with adolescents, adults, couples and families presenting with issues related to attachment, trauma, grief & loss, depression, anxiety, relationships, cross-cultural transitions and adjustments.  


Her special interests lie in trauma recovery and growth, helping individuals, couples and families develop and strengthen emotional resiliency and connections.



Language Skills and Cross Cultural Experiences


Magdalen speaks fluent English and Mandarin. 

As a bilingual clinician, she connects well with clients from diverse cultures and provide culturally sensitive services to the Chinese community.


Having lived and worked in both Eastern and Western  cultures, she has developed invaluable insights into what it takes to navigate both cultures successfully and meaningfully. She has helped migrants and international students successfully adapt to cross-cultural adjustments and thrive in their new learning, work and living environments.
